About The Course

The Prehospital Emergency Medicine Crew Course is a 2 week course, designed for doctors who are beginning their careers in PHEM or HEMS, and also for paramedics who are looking to take their clinical skills to the next level. Originally designed in conjunction with London HEMS it has recently seen several large changes making it extremely relevant for trainees who are either starting out in PHEM or who are wanting to build their skills and CV prior to application. It is designed to give experienced clinicians the skills required to be effective prehospital crew members. This is a very resource intensive couple of week, we have no intention of boring people to death with powerpoint! Instead we begin the week looking at human factors and decision making (as it's expected that these are skills candidates will continue to develop as the course proceeds) and then we get straight in to the action with high fidelity simulation, moulage & surgical skills. We work with both County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service (CDDFRS) and Northumbria University to make sure the training we deliver is both relevant and of an extremely high quality. We don't believe in 'pretending', we do simulation at night, we cut up real cars (17 in total during 2015) we bring in real fire fighters and police officers and we even get wet in a river!
